Nature and Culture…Tampa, Florida to Highland Hammock State Park

I woke up feeling amazingly motivated this morning and went for a 4 1`/2 mile run on the Florida trail, a wilderness trail following the Hillsborough River. It was stickier than I expected, but I’m finally feeling like I’m back in good running shape. After the run, we made breakfast and then packed up camp. All of this by 10AM. We went in to Tampa, Florida and visited Ybor City, the old Cuban quarter which was the world’s largest producer of cigars at the beginning of the 20th century. We had some good Cuban food, me, the picadillo and Fabien, a Cuban sandwich. We then went and walked along the Tampa boardwalk and checked out a used bookstore. This evening we are camping in Highland Hammock State Park, south of Orlando. We are in the “primitive” site, no running water and we only have one neighbor so it should be a quiet night. Tomorow we are going to watch the Space Shuttle Discovery launch from Titusville…
