En nuestro recorrido por la Patagonia vamos a cruzar varias veces de Chile a Argentina y viceversa, para intentar ver todo lo que se pueda de la Patagonia. Vistas desde el avion de los Andes, la cadena montañosa mas larga del mundo.
ENG: We´ll be passing through Chile and Argentina several times while we´re down here in Patagonia, this region is split up between Chile and Argentina, divided by the natural border of the Andes. Here´s a few shots of the Andes from the plane down from Santiago to Punta Arenas.
Tambien de camino a Tierra de fuego cruzamos el Estrecho de Magallanes.
ENG: On the way to Tierra del Fuego we crossed the famous Straits of Magellan
De camino a Ushuaia nos cruzamos varias veces con los famosos baquianos o pastores de la Patagonia con sus ovejas, la foto la hicimos desde el autocar mientras cientos de ovejas estaban cruzando la carretera.
ENG: On the bus trip to Ushuaia we passed many Patagonian shepherds with their flocks, this place is home to millions of sheep! They are often on the road and it can take a while to get through them!
Esto es Ushuaia, la ciudad mas Austral del mundo, en la Tierra del Fuego, parte Chilena parte Argentina, la unica ciudad de Argentina al lado oeste de los Andes.
ENG: Ushuaia, southernmost city in the world! Home to some 20,000 inhabitants. At the southern tip of the island of Tierra Del Fuego (which is divided between Chile to the west and Argentina to the east. It is also the only Argentinian city to the west of the great Andes range.
Encontramos este monumento, en el que no merece mas explicacion que leerlo, nos parecio increible una idea asi, una idea sensible para los habitantes del futuro, como veran este siglo??
We saw this monument, which explains that there is a time capsule buried below, see english translation of the plaque below.
ENG: Called “The Philco time capsule” it says “Do not open until 2 Oct, 2492. Inside this monument you can find an iron box and inside 6 laser discs with television programs where hundreds of Argentinians left messages for future generations. It is made to last 500 years and will show future generations how we thought and lived today. We hope future generations will keep and preserve this capsule to ensure the success of this important trip into the future, when the XX century will be just a time long ago in history, this Philco time capsule will be there like a time traveller. May God protect it.”
Hubo otro monumento que nos causo tanto impacto como el anterior y es de la plaza de las Islas Malvinas, y me recordo cuando era pequeña, ver por la tele imagenes de jovenes ensangrentados y en mi coleccion de pegatinas tenia una: Las Malvinas son Agentinas.. estando alli nos pusimos a hablar con una mujer, de la locura de esa guerra (como todas las demas) y de la esperanza que tienen los argentinos de recuperar pacificamente y sin rencor algun dia estas islas. Fue muy emocionante. En las islas hay mas de 200 tumbas sin marcar y solo con “Solo Dios sabe su nombre” escrito.
ENG: Close by there was also another very moving monument at Plaza de las Islas Malvinas (Falkland Islands). Most of you will remember the bloody images of young soldiers, and the sinking of the Belgrano by the British, Quene also had a sticker in her collection “Las Malvinas son Argentinas” (the Falkland Islands are Argentinian). We were contemplating the war and the death of so many very young Argentinian heroes, when an elderly local lady came up to us, we spoke of the pain and madness of that war (like all other wars), and she told us of the hope and belief that through peaceful means the islands will return to Argentina again. It was very emotional. On the islands there are more than 200 unmarked graves where Argentinian soldiers are buried, with the epithet “It is God who knows their names”. The sculpture represents the emptiness in the hearts of the Argentinian people caused by the deaths of the soldiers in the war as well as the feeling that without the Falkland Islands the people and the country will never feel complete.

Este es el faro “Les Éclaireurs” en el canal Beagle, las puertas hacia la Antartida, cerca de aqui hay otro famoso faro en el que Julio Verne se inspiro para su novela “El faro del fin del mundo”.
ENG: This is “Les Éclaireurs” lighthouse in the Beagle Channel, the gateway to the Anlantic and the Pacific Oceans. There is also another light house near the Cape of Horn which inspired Jules Verne to write “The Lighthouse at the End of the World”
Estos son conmoranes en una de las muchas pequeñas islas en la bahia de Ushuaia, desde el barco nos pudimos acercar a esta comunidad de estos pajaros con los Andes de fondo.
ENG: These cormorant colonies were dotted around islands in the Beagle Channel just outside of Ushuaia. The boat got right up close, and you can see the Andes in the background.
“Conduciendo” el barco y asi quitarse la morriña del Shannon Cruise IV -2006, solo que nosotros lo hicimos aqui en el fin del mundo.
ENG: Here we are “driving” the boat, thinking of you guys on the Shannon Cruise IV, 2006! The big difference is that we´re at the bottom of the world, ha, ha, haaaaaa!
Esta parte de Patagonia tiene fauna similar a NZ, y volvimos a ver leones marinos en otro pequeño islote del canal acostumbrados ya a las camaras de los turistas, posan para nosotros y todo.
ENG: The wildlife in this part of Patagonia is very similar to that in NZ. So we got to sea lion colonies out on the rocks. They seem very used to tourists, they even like to pose for the camara!
Visitamos el Parque nacional Tierra de Fuego, nos hizo un tiempo excepcional durante las 3 horas de caminata, viendo paisajes fabulosos y animales tipicos de la Patagonia.
ENG: We did a 3 hour coastal hike in the Tierra del Fuego National Park. The weather was great, sunshine all day! There were amazing views and lots of local wildlife!
Andando por el P.N. Tierra de Fuego, con el ruido de nuestros pasos en las hojas casi no nos dimos cuenta de ellos y del ruido que hacen al hacer agujeros en los arboles, son los famosos y simpaticos pajaros carpinteros patagonicos, intentando que no se dieran cuenta de nosotros intentamos sacar las mejores fotos.
Walking in the Tierra del Fuego N.P. we stopped to hear what sounded like someone knocking on the door. After a couple of minutes we spotted a group of PAtagonian Woodpeckers up in the trees drilling away into the trees! They didn´t seem to mind us creeping up on them to take some brillo pictures!

Some fantastic (and unspoilt) scenery there!
Beats the pollution in Santiago, yeah? Here in HK there is also a serious pollution problem. There is a (pollution) level given every morning for that day, and the thing is only ever high! My friend and I want a new indicator introduced – the ‘how high’ table! Just high, moderately high or very high – that would be more informative! Tho it probably wouldn’t go down well with the locals…
Anyway…..
The WCup is coming up very shortly. Starts on June-9 and finishes a month later on July-9 I think. The Argie-bargies play their first game on June-10, Brazil (June-13) and Spain (June-14); there I looked it up for ya! Knowing how passionate the Suda Americanos are about their football, I think it would be interesting to watch the games with them and perhaps watch a local game or two as well…..
Good luck. I’ll be cheering for the Dutch, and they play the Argies in their last group game – one of the highlights of the first round!

Nosotros estamos preparando un verano por Italia. Y hace un par de minutos estabamos mirando apartamentos para tres dias en Venecia, que es una de las etapas , junto con Pisa , Florencia, Siena, Roma. Ya se que no es lo mismo que vuestro tour pero por algo se empieza.

Yea, the air pollution in Santiago is apparently the worst in the world due to its geographic location, in a valy surrounded by the Andes to the east and the coastal mountains to the west, and as it´s very dry, apparently the dryest autumn on record, there´s no rain to clear up the smog, so it just sits there getting worse every day.
Can´t wait for the World Cup, we´ll be in Buenos Aires for those 3 matches, and the Arg-Brasil match is on my birthday, so that will be something, let´s just hope they beat Brasil! (sorry Henrique!)

Que alegria me da leerte gracias, ver los pajaros carpinteros fue muy gracioso, con el ruido de las hojas en el suelo al caminar casi nos los pasamos, James los escucho primero y me dice …Has oido como si alguien llamara a una puerta .. asi que nos quedamos unos segundos parados y enseguida escuchamos toc toc toc.. viniendo de varios sentidos cuando nos dimos cuenta estaban alrededor nuestro, es la primera vez que veiamos uno, ni siquiera por la television , si acaso por los dibujos animados.. jajaja !! y son tan graciosos como en los dibujos ..
Ushuaia es muy bonito, todavia estamos aqui, ayer no pudimos coger el autobus a las 5 de la mañana, estamos en la calle San Martin , terminando de traducir lo que queda.
Nos hizo mucha ilusion verte y hablar contigo y tu familia y a mi hermana tambien.
Tu padre me recordo mucho al mio… que nos esta leyendo ahora y firma como Sanfer city 🙂

San-fer city: vaya pues muy bien, nos podreis seguir desde alli y asi aparecera la bandera italiana. Me da apuro estar tan aqui abajo en el mapa…y no conocer mucho europa asi que tengo una asignatura pendiente alli… tendremos que volver a ahorrar otros 300 años, o afinar los pinceles y tener un brochazo de suerte. Esto es precioso y nos recuerda a Queenstown en NZ nada mas que con acento argentino y la gente muy requete maja che…y tan tan barato que a veces pensamos que teniamos que haber pasado menos en Australia para que la plata diera mas de si…pero que nos quiten lo bailao..no?
Sol , Szu Ying , Puma , Anahi o quien conozca la Argentina bien ..vamos a intentar seguir la ruta 40 , pero dicen que esta cerrada.. sabeis que merece la pena de ver entre Bariloche y Buenos Aires..?? Iremos a Puerto Madryn para ver mas animalitos, tenemos 3 semanas para ir a BA. Mañana volvemos a cruzar a Chile para ver Torres del Paine.

Sí, Internet es una herramienta maravillosa y posibilita este tipo de encuentros.
Me encantó conocer a Quene y a James. Fue un placer.
Aprovechad el fresquito , en Bilbao 41 grados , y 36 en Madrid. El tio del tiempo dice que a partir de mañana bajaran las temperaturas bastante casi diez grados a fin de semana.
Asi que Elio ira vestido de novio para la Comunion con temperaturas razonables el proximo sabado.
En cuanto a la capsula del tiempo no es lo mismo las referencias que tendran los del futuro con las tecnologias actuales , Porque siempre seran documentos sobre hechos reales probados.
Un codigo de Mandela, que se escriba dentro de 500 años estoy seguro que tiene un rigor absoluto sobre la vida de este gran hombre. Y no con el talante y fantasia pseudocientifica del Codigo da Vinci que se estrena hoy en Cannes. A pesar de los que les guste la ciencia ficcion.

La ruta 40 esta cerrada?? La verdad es que no escuche nada y tampoco encontre nada en google pero si esta haciendo mucho frio puede ser que hayan cerrado algun tramo.
Como llegan a Bariloche? por avion o cruzan los Andes? El cruce por el Lago Frias es muy lindo pero en esta epoca del año no se si estara abierto.
Desde Bariloche pueden pasar por Villa Langostura y San Martin de los Andes haciendo el camino de los 7 lagos. Esa zona es muy bonita (por lo menos en verano que es cuando estuve yo) Lo unico que les debo advertir es que si ya lanzaron la temporada de esqui los precios deben estar por las nubes.
Si siguen subiendo por la cordillera les recomiendo pasar el Valle de la Luna en la provincia de San Juan, las fotos que pueden sacar ahi!!!
Bueno chicos, sigan comiendo asados que me dan mucha envidia!! Prueben las facturas, las empanas, el dulce de leche…. y no sigo que se me va a caer la baba sobre el teclado 🙂

Todavia echamos de menos Ushuaia nos encanto, comimos un tenedor libre, cordero y carne de vacuno a la parrilla y comimos tanto que al dia siguiente no me podia mover, no creo que haya comido tanta carne en toda mi vida (semi-vegetariana).
mañana volvemos a cruzar la frontera (puerto natales- calafate) tenemos ya unos cuantos sellos de ambos paises.

Los pingüinos efectivamente ya estan subiendo para Brasil.. y luego que nos convenzan que somos los mas inteligentes del planeta..ja! Las pingüinas ya estan con los tangas puestos tomando el sol en Ipanema; mañana o pasado le daremos recuerdos a Perito Moreno de tu parte.. A ver cuanto nos chuflan por los tours, que han aprendido a sacar a los turistas lo mas que se pueda, y a veces solo les falta ponernos las banderillas. Torres del Paine es impresionante pero no puedes cobrar precios Europeos por ver una montaña (muchos chilenos no se lo pueden ni permitir).

Al dulce de leche lo llaman manjar.. que peligro..! la primera semana no haciamos mas que comer empanadas en Chile.
Y en Punta Arenas fuimos a la Luna para comer centollo y para buscar el cartelito de Bea en el mapa pero na´ . Nosotros pusimos el alfiler con los dos nombres en Madrid y Dublin.

No entiendo cual es el revuelo con el libro/pelicula, la iglesia le esta dando publicidad gratis, pues si es ficcion es ficcion y punto. por pensar en otra peli.. el nombre de la rosa, no se lio tal revuelo. pero no quiero entrar al trapo y darle mas importancia de la que tiene. (sin quererlo tu tambien estas haciendo publicidad) asi que ya!
Hoy hemos visto guanacos y condores en el torres del Paine y hacia un frio que te pelas, hemos vuelto a ver Baquianos (pastores a caballo) y hemos cogido un trozo de glaciar que calculando debe tener miles de años (desde que cae en forma de nieve,se compacta, cae yva hasta la orilla de una playa) y pronto os enseñaremos fotos.
en Perito Moreno es tan puro que en los tours te invitan a un Whisky con el hielo del glaciar.

Ya estamos de vuelta en Argentina y se nota a simple vista.. (calles mas limpias y precios mas economicos) a veces me pregunto en Chile que hacen con el dinero de los turistas..aqui mejoran las calles y casas…este fin de semana vamos a estar entre hielo, dos tours , mañana uno por barco a varios glaciares incluido el mas grande Upsala y el lunes al Perito Moreno.
Asi que dentro de dos posts vais a flipar como nosotros lo haremos mañana. 🙂

Yup Mon, got up and watched it; it was on at 3am locally! Not so bad, and well worth it! If anything the ref nearly handed the game to Arsenal! Don’t believe the rubbish coming from the Arse camp!? I know you saw it yourself, you should have realised that only one decision mattered in the whole game and that was the decision not to play the advantage rule when Barce were about to score. I would have played advantage, then sent off Lehman, then Wenger too for whinging, then Eboue for diving and anybody else who annoyed me – Arse would have been 1-0 down, 9 men, no manager; they would have gotten destroyed if the ref had done his job well!
Anyway….
Good news for the rest of the world that Ronaldinho was stopped in that game – the game needs new champions! For taht reason alone I hope Brazil don’t win again!

Estuve en en campus de Aito tres seguidos, es muy majete, me da buenos recuerdos de esos veranos..lo puedes mandar a hotmail…Nos queda lo mejor del viaje seguro que muchos sitios por donde vamos a pasar tu ya has estado..Despues de Buenos Aires iremos a Peru, Bolivia, bajar a Chile por Atacama, volamos a Buenos Aires y vamos subiendo por tierra hacia Brasil.. asi que ya te iremos pidiendo sugerencias.

Por aqui gente rica, (de otros paises) esta comprando los bordes del lago Argentino (el mas grande de sudamerica) porque dicen que en el futuro poseer agua va a ser como tener un pozo petrolifero…mal vamos!

The kids are doing well! Their speaking ability has improved. And regards listening, they can understand a lot more now. Reading is their strongest point; writing their weakest point.
They know the website address and could be looking at the photos; but becasue teh language is difficult for them I am guessing taht they have stopped tracking your progress? And we’ve been so busy in class that I haven’t had a chance to show them the site for ages. But thanks for reminding me, now I will show them your message and we’ll send on a reply soon and/ or I’ll ask them to write to you for practise.
Enjoy the World Cup. Be great for you if Arg. win it! If I had any paid-leave (or any kind of leave, paid or otherwise) I’d take it and go to Germany. But cable (TV) will have to do; be up most mornings watching the games I imagine!

Eu estive recentemente na Argentina (Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, El Calafate e Bariloche) e adorei, principalmente Ushuaia, a Terra do Fim do Mundo.
E gostei muito de ler o vosso blog, para relembrar as bonitas paisagens (fotos).
A Argentina ficará num lugar muito especial do meu coração.

Todavia nos quedan 3 meses de viaje por la parte mas interesante del mundo asi que te invito a que nos sigas ..

Nos alegra que te gusten las fotos de Ushuaia, desde aqui te invitamos a que tambien veas las fotos de los otros paises que hemos visitado desde Oct-05.
Actualmente estamos en BsAs, pero nos encantaria volver al fin del mundo y volver a ver esos maravillosos paisajes.

Deberias informarte primero antes de escribir horrores… Ushuaia es Argentina ya que corresponde a la provincia Argentina de Tierra del fuego.

Me referia que Tierra del Fuego (la isla) tiene parte chilena y parte argentina, y no a Ushuaia, que si que es 100% argentina. Lo siento si te hemos ofendido!

hola me llamo joa soy de ushuaia me encanta es un hermoso lugar para vivir o para pasar de vacaciones deverian venir a tdos en general aveses hace calor no siempre es frio pero es un gran lugar turistico biene mucha gente de afuera pero eso no es problema por que es gente agradable ushuaia es el mejor lugar para estar
