Machu Picchu – Ciudad perdida de los Inca – Lost city of the Incas
Hola desde Machu Picchu, la ciudad perdida de los Incas, cuando llegaron los conquistadores, los habitantes de esta ciudad huyeron y permanecio escondida hasta el siglo XX, hasta que que el arqueologo Hiram Bingham lo saco a la luz en 1911 dandole importancia internacional, aunque se dice que los verdaderos descubridores fueron unos campesinos varios años antes Agustin Lizarraga, Melchor Arteapa and Anacleto Alvarez. De una forma u otra gracias a ellos pudimos visitar una de las joyas arquitectonicas mas impresionantes.
ENG: Hola from Machu Picchu, lost city of the Incas. This place remained hidden in the forest hills for a long time. Abandoned by the Incas during the Spanish conquest it was overrun by the forrest for some 500 years until it was brought to international attention in 1911 by the American archeologist Hiram Bingham who was taken there by some locals who had discovered it shortly before him, Agustin Lizarraga, Melchor Arteapa and Anacleto Alvarez.
Hay varias teorias sobre la funcion de esta ciudad a 2300m snm entre las montañas. Se dice que era donde el emperador inca pasaba sus vacatas, normalmente vivian 300 , cuando llegaba el Inca la poblacion era de 1200, se empezo a construir en 1450 hasta la llegada de los españoles en 1533, nunca se termino la ciudad.
ENG: There are various theories on the function of this city some 2300m up in the mountains. It’s said that the function of this place was a summer palace for the head of the Inca empire. There were usually 300 servants and farmers on hand at any one time, and when the Inca Emperor came here to escape the bitter Cusco winter some 1000m higher up in the Andes, the Inca Emperor along with his family and entourage brought the numbers living in the citadel to some 1200 inhabitants. Construction began in 1450 until the arrival of the Spanish in 1533, when the city was abandoned.
No pudimos hacer el camino Inca (3 noches de caminata para acceder a Machu Picchu) porque estaba completo hasta Octubre!!! Asi que decidimos tomar un bus y el tren, que es carisimo para los Kms que hay hasta Aguas Calientes, la mayoria de la gente toma un bus hasta la puerta del Machu Picchu, nosotros decidimos andar y subir los mas de mil escalones hasta la puerta, empezamos a subir a las 5 de la mañana para ver el amanecer.
Eng: Having skipped the Inca trail, the traditional 3night hiking trail to access Machu Picchu, nowadays you have to book 4-5 months in advance to get a place, and you also need some time to acclimatise to the high altitude, we decided to take the bus and train from Cusco. To reach the top of the mountain from the village of Aguas Calientes below you can take the bus, a US$12 return trip, a bit pricy for a 10 minute journey! The people who run this place tend to rip off the tourists, oh it also costs US$25 entry, and a 2.5 hour train journey costs US$40 return. This is Peru we’re talking about not Ireland!!!! Needless to say most Peruvians haven’t been here as there’s no way they could afford the entry fee! Having forked out US$135 for the 2 day trip, we decided to hike to the top on the original trail used by the Incas. It felt like there were at least 1,000 steps, oh we did this before dawn, so we could see sunrise over Machu Picchu, so with a torch in hand we started climbing.
Todo lo que cuentan sobre la energia de este lugar es cierto, es la tranquilidad del paisaje con las montañas, las rocas tienen un 30% de cuarzo, asi que acumulan el calor del sol, las vistas son increibles, sobre todo cuando los primeros rayos del sol alumbran al Huayna Picchu o Wayna Picchu o nariz del Inca, en pocos minutos toda la ciudad estaba iluminada.
ENG: It was a beautiful sight watching the suns rays come over the mountains lighting up Huayna Picchu o WaynaPicchu (the peak behind Macchu Picchu) first, before slowly reaching down to city of Macchu Picchu itself. WOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!
Vistas de las terrazas donde cultivaban, la ciudad estaba dividida en zonas donde vivir, templos, zonas de cultivos y area social. En el centro detalle de uno de los templos, con su construccion resistente a seismos. Tercera es el detalle de este espejo de agua donde observaban el cielo. Tambien desde aqui median los solsticios y equinocios para calcular la temporada de cultivos. Hay una roca en forma de Chacana cada 21 de Junio o solsticio de Invierno.
ENG: Here you can see the farming terraces viewed from the living quarters. As well as details from one of the temples. And a reflection in the water ‘mirror’ they used for exploring the night sky from the observatory.
Las llamas, guardianas de este magico lugar, vista de la ciudad y del WaynaPicchu o Huayna Picchu. y la segunda foto vista del Machu Picchu desde lo alto del WaynaPicchu, sonde si sufres mucho de vertigo no es recomendable subir, pero si quieres ver la mejor vista del mundo, este es el lugar.
ENG: The llamas help keep the grass nice and trimmed! In the background is Huayna Picchu, which means ‘new mountain’ in Quechua, the language of the Incas, Machu Picchu meaning ‘old mountain’. After our guided tour, we decided to climb to the top for a great view of all of Machu Picchu and the valleys all around.
No fue facil subir hasta la cima del WaynaPicchu, aqui arriba los incas tenian un observatorio de estrellas y lo utilizaban como vigilancia tambien. Escaleras empinadas y bloques de piedra muy grandes, todavia no nos explicamos como eran capaces de construir cosas asi. En la tercera foto una pareja Argentina de Santa Fe, estan haciendo un peazo e viaje en moto por sudamerica.
ENG: It wasn’t an easy hike to the top of Waynapicchu, quite steep in parts. The trip back down to Machu Picchu was quite scary, look at how steep those steps are, there’s an Argentine couple we met who were motorbiking it from Santa Fe, Argentina all the way to Machu Picchu in Peru, a round trip of some 10,000km!!!
Para nosotros estar en Machu Picchu fue una de las mejores experiencias de todo el viaje, despues de subir andando, subir el Wayna Pichu y bajar andando a oscuras, todavia nos sentiamos euforicos y llenos de energia, asi que debe ser verdad lo que dicen sobre este lugar que es uno de los centros de energia natural mas importantes del mundo.

Yep, still in South America, and will be here until October!!!!! Yea, those steps down from Waynapichu were very steep, I´m not one to be afraid of heights, but heading down those steps and the sheer drop hundreds of feet down definitely gives you a dizzy head!
Well were still enjoying the sunshine here too, and it´s ‘winter’ well the dry season, but can get cold at night.
Would love to head back to Oz in October, when we get back home, don’t think we could handle an Irish winter after all this!!! Don’t think the bank balance will allow it, though 🙁
