Starting the Preparation
Wednesday, February 4th, 2009The dates for the trip have now been decided and we (myself and my mate Marc) leave for Brisbane on the 19th September.
Rough Trip Summary
19th September: Leave from Manchester
21st September: internal flight from Brisbane to Cairns. Pick up the 4×4 and any extra items we may need and drive to Cape Trib.
22nd September: Following the night at the Daintree Rainforest Retreat Motel to see Eric and Judy its off onto the Cape york trek.
3rd October: Back to Cairns.
3rd October - 16 October : Travel round QLD, two days in Sydney and 3 days in Melbourne.
As you can see there is not yet a set itinerary for the Cape York section of the trip at the moment as this needs a lot of careful thought in order to make sure we go to the right places and aren’t rushing.
What do we need
We need to put a lot of thought into what we need to take with us on the trip and what we need to hire.
Hire:
4×4 that allows us on the Telegraph track - This is a difficult one as not many companies let you do this. Will update when I have a final company
Cooking Equipment
Jerry Cans for water AND fuel (seperate ones obviously)
Camping furniture
To take with us:
Tent - We’ve bought one rather than paying about 3x the price just to hire one.
Lamps for the noggin’s
Sleeping bags
airbeds (maybe…not 100% decided on this yet)
The Tent
Marc came over a couple of weeks ago and we went around Manchester town centre looking at the camping shops. Although a plethora of shops in Manchester there was strangely enough very little choice. We chatted through requirements with one particularly helpful assistant in the North Face shop and went home and ordered one off the net. Seeing as we’re only using it on the trip for 2 weeks and in the dry season (although we’ll get some rain) we decided to limit ourselves to £100 at the most. Well, through my employers rewards/discount scheme we got a £110 tent (max price from other shop) for £67.99
