Robbed in Florence…
Ok so we weren’t actually robbed in Florence but we felt like we were after paying 10 euro to see Michaelangelo’s David. I called it the 10 minute museum since that’s the amount of time it took to go through it. There isn’t much else there. So if you do the math that’s 1 euro a minute. We also realized afterwards that we culd have walked past the glass doors at the exit and had a clear view of it too. We had also seen an exact replica in the Piazza Vecchio the day before. So the moral of this story is that unless you are an avid art fan it’s probably not worth the 10 euro, but that’s just my opinion.
During our quick stop in Florence we wandered aimlessly (since that seems to be what we do best). We walked across the Ponte Vecchio, which is is a Medival bridge over the Arno River with little shops built all along it. It used to be mostly butchers in all the shops when it was first built but now it’s all jewellry shops with a few souvenir stands as well. We also walked by the Duomo (aka domed catherdral) and the Pitti Palace where the Medici Family used to live.
After a poor night sleep in a 20 bed dorm room in Florence we hopped the train to Rome. After checking into our hostel we decided to set out to see some of the sites. We walked all over the city seeing the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, and some Roman ruins to name a few. Yesterday we went to Colosseum and the ajoining ruins, and then we went to Vatican City to see Saint Peter’s Basilica. Apparently earlier in the day the Pope made a public address, we missed it. We ended the day by going out to for a dinner of delicious pizza.
Today we came to Naples and then proceeded to Pompei for the afternoon to see the ruins there. The ruins and seeing the casts of the people who died in 79 AD after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius was quite interesting.
Tomorrow we are planning on catching the ferry from Bari,Itlay to Patras, Greece. We’ll be in Athens until Tuesday and then we hope to go to the Greek Islands for a week before flying back to Venice.
That’s all for now folks!

Thanks for sharing.
Hope you can make it to Crete, or at least
Thera [aka Santorini]. Boats to islands
go from Piraeus, BTW.
Enjoy,
M.
P.S. I’ve worked on the indexes for the
archaeological site reports for Kommos,
the harbour town for Phaistos [Festos]
in southern Crete.
