New Cell Phone Number
Well we finally got ourselves a NZ phone number. It is +64 (0) 212978734. We get FREE incoming calls from anywhere in the world so please feel free to call us whenever you feel like it (unless of course it’s the middle of the night here). We are 13 hours ahead of GMT right now (until daylight savings ends) so if you are in Ontario just add 5 hours to the time there and that’s the time here the next day (eg. 2pm in Ontario = 3pm on the east coast = 12pm in Colorado = 11am in BC = 7am in NZ the next day).
Also some bad news, my USB card somehow got deleted by a computer at an internet cafe today so all the photos that I still had to upload are now gone (as well as everything else I had on there). Luckily they are all still on the camera card (I hope) so I just have to download them off there again. We also have them saved to CD so they are not lost completely but it might mean nobody gets to see the rest of them until we get back. Needless to say we will not be going back to that internet cafe!
Yesterday we went on a free bus tour with Kiwi Experience around Auckland. We went to the Harbour Bridge and got all harnessed up and put on some hard hats to walk along the underside of the bridge to get to the Bungee Pod. Once there a couple people from the tour decided to bungee jump off the bridge which was fun to watch. We contemplated doing it too since it is the cheapest jump in the country but I decided that my bladder was too full to do it then and Eero wants to do the highest and most expensive jump in the country, The Nevis. So it looks like we might be jumping the Nevis down in Queenstown…I’ll have to make sure I empty my bladder before going out to jump! We also went to an old military fort on a volcano and had some great views of the city from there. From what we have seen so far NZ is a really nice country. The weather is great here and everything is so green and the flowers are huge. Last night the bar at our hostel was having some bar Olympics so we decided to participate, if only to get free drinks (since we are frugal travellers). They were fun but every team was majorly cheating and in the 3rd event which involved spinning and then running to hug your partner there was a bit of an accident when Eero ran into my toe with his shoes and stubbed it and ripped the toenail off of it. So we didn’t win since we missed the last event, not that we would have won anyways with all the cheating going on. My toe is a bit sore but it’s alright and I will live. Poor Eero feels really bad though even though he didn’t mean to do it.
Well that’s all for now folks! Hopefully we’ll have more to write next week!
