Finally out of the hospital!
Eero was released from the hospital last night back into the wild. We haven’t made it off of the hospital property yet, but he’s no longer a patient. Despite the fact he is still wearing his hospital bracelet. We are hanging out in the hospital guest house for a few days until Eero has to go get checked out by his surgeon next Tuesday. After that we will probably start heading towards the north island to recover at Sarah’s relatives in Masterton for a few weeks.
Interesting facts from Land Transport New Zealand:
- An average, healthy adult struck at 30km/h has a 95 per cent chance of surviving the impact.
- At 50km/h, the chance of survival drops to 60 per cent.
- At 60km/h the odds of survival are just 30 per cent.
- At 70km/h and the chance of survival plunges to just four per cent.
Police estimate that Eero got hit by a vehicle going 90-95 km/h. Lucky, eh? Once again, he is top notch!

Iggy greatly enjoyed hearing that you took out a Toyota all on your own. Although he is still worried for you, he is mightily impressed. He’s been strongly encouraged not to try it himself. EVER.
He did want to let you know that he is your brother in injury. He had soccer camp this week, where sometime during the day, he suffered a scraped leg. His assessment of the injury was that “if it had happened to an animal in the wild, they wouldn’t have survived,” and that we had to tell you of his own triumph of survival immediately. Today he slipped on the stairs and noted after he hit the ground that he could have lost a tooth and boy we had to tell you about that one as well. It’s perilous being a four year old in LA. Although apparently not as perilous as being a 26 year old in New Zealand.
Just so you know, you’re continually in our thoughts. Keep getting better! Drive Vanna carefully. xo christi, iggy and dan.

Hello Eero and Sarah, Got to meet Eero in recovery dept, Nelson and am very impressed by your journey. I will share your blog with a few nieces and nephews who need to know the possibilities. Anyhow, wish that you heal fast and the very best on your journeys. You put a lot of work into the website and it is commendable. Cheers!nrnrRoxanne (originally from SoCal)
