England vs. Eesti - October 13, 2007
So after paris, we took a flight to London, and met up with my brother Jaanu, and a motley crew of other Estonians from Toronto, the US, and Eesti. After arriving the friday before the game, we did a typical sort of pub crawl, were all sorts of inebriation ensued. The next morning we woke up and the three of us made our way to Wembly stadium to pick up our tickets. We showed up nice and early to get our tickets, and proceded to mosey around the stadium, cheering with other Estonians, and saying niceties to the English fans. We then proceeded into the stadium–well we tried to, but our tickets wouldn’t work. So we went down to the ticket office, where a crowd of unruly Estos had gathered whose tickets weren’t working. They eventually handed out new tickets for everyone, which although our group of twenty no longer sat together, put Jaanu, Sarah and I on the 4th row of the seats. Not too shabby. We watched the thrilling game as England put on a show, beating us soundly 3-0. All the action happened down at our end for both halves, and Eesti was about 1/2 a meter from scoring right in front of us. We celebrated our loss late into the evening.
The next few days we spent kicking around london, doing our aimless tourist meandering with Jaanu in tow. We saw the Globe theater, Big Ben, cathedrals, the Maple Leaf Bar, took a walking tour, and even caught a musical: We Will Rock You. We all enjoyed it and had a blast in London.
