Rest of Europe Plans

Friday, November 9th, 2007

Alright, a quick update of our plans while we’re in Athens still. Tonight we fly from Athens to Venice, and will be there for two days, before we take a train and bus through Trieste to Dubrovnik, Croatia. We then will spend a few days there and in Split, before heading up to Rijeka in Croatia, where we fly to Frankfurt. We then head on to New Zealand on the 19th, of November.

The past few days in Santorini, we just kind of hung out. The weather was cool, and mostly cloudy. We stayed in Perissa, and instead of staying in Fira, we rented a car and drove around the island. It’s quite a hilly island, since it is basically the cliffed rim of an old volcano. Plus the drivers there border on the insane, and are quite content to pass you at mach-looney, just to make it to bakery quicker. We did almost see a gorgeous sunset in Ia, on the northern part of the island, except for a pleasant storm that rolled in at the last minute to hide it. All in all it was a relaxing nice few days for us to regroup after all the stress of traveling. We then took the ferry back to Athens on the 7th, and unfortunately missed the volcano festival in Santorini the following day. Yesterday we went swimming yesterday in the seaside town of Vouglameni, outside of Athens, in a theraputic warm saltwater lake.

Basic Itinerary

Friday, July 20th, 2007

Alright, so since people are wondering what our general travel plans are, we’ll post them here so that we don’t have to repeat it to everyone in separate emails. This is what we have planned so far:

  • July 23rd - Fly from Toronto, Canada (YYZ) to Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany (FRA).
  • July 24th - Arrive in Frankfurt. See the city. Sleep.
  • July 25th - Get on bus in Frankfurt
  • July 26th - Get off bus in Parnu, Eesti. Yes it’s the same bus, only 36 hours later.
  • July 26th-August 25 - In Eesti, most likely in Parnu, Tallinn, Tartu, Saaremaa and Hiiumaa. Probably in that order.
  • August 25 - Fly from Tallinn, Eesti (TLL) to Berlin, Germany (SXF).
  • August 25-September 29th - Travel Through northern Germany, Denmark?, Netherlands, Belgium, England, Scotland, Ireland.
  • September 29th - Fly from Dublin, Ireland (DUB) to Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN), which is actually 120 km outside of Frankfurt.
  • September 29th-October 2nd - Visit Stuttgart and Wolfsburg to see Porsche and VW Factories (Yippee!!)
  • October 3rd-October 4th - Oktoberfest es Wunderbar! We are in Munich Oktoberfesting
  • October 4th-November 10th - Traveling through Switzerland, France, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Czech Republic and probably a few others and probably in an order kinda like that. Yes, we know that we probably picked one of the more zig-zagging paths through Europe.
  • November 11th - Fly from Frankfurt (FRA) to Auckland, New Zealand (AKL) with a stopover in Singapore (SIN).
  • November 12th-February 2008 - Live, Work, and Play in New Zealand.
  • February 2008 - Our unknown journey across the Tasman Sea, possibly by plane or crewing (or hitchhiking) on a sailboat.
  • February-April 2008 - Travel the Outback and eat Kangaroo, or just see the sights in Australia.
  • April-May 2008 - Fly from Melbourne, Australia (MEL) to Singapore (SIN). We then plan to travel through Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, eating spicy and tasty food along the way.
  • Mayish 2008 - Supposedly we’re supposed to come home. I guess the plan is to fly from Singapore back to Toronto, if we decide not to live in some paradise we’ve found along the way.

* Please note that this is our honeymoon, and we’re gonna do as we please. So this Itinerary is subject to change upon our whim. We will most likely post updates and changes to the plans.

** If you happen to be traveling and in the general area, or living in an area where we might be coming through, please let us know and we can meet up, have a meal and a pint. Hopefully we won’t be too smelly by that point. You can get ahold of us by emailing us at eero.teene@gmail.com.
