Saku, Hiiumaa, & Saaremaa

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Well its been a very busy past few days. We stayed in Pärnu until the 3rd of August. The weather warmed up slightly and then turned beautiful just as we left Pärnu. During the final few days in Pärnu we went on a nice hike in Sooma Park, through the Riisa bog, and also more visiting with relatives.

We moved on to Saku where we met Eero’s relatives Urmas & Reet and their son Siim, and Arvo & Ene, who are cousins to Eero’s mother, on her father’s side. We feasted in Saku the first evening with them, a large dinner of bbqed meat, smoked fish, and of course, lots of Eesti viin (vodka).

Lounging In Pärnu

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Tere Eestis!

We have been here in Pärnu the past few days, enjoying the rain and overcast weather. Not really great for going to the beach as we have found out. Sarah did mention though ‘Beer is a good rainy day activity.’

Despite the weather, we’ve both been spending lots of time visiting with Eero’s vanaema (grandmother) and tädi (aunt). It’s been very nice and we’ve been eating delicious home cooked meals. Life as travelers is really rough, I guess. We also went and saw an orchestral performance at the Pärnu Konserdimaja (Concert hall) which featured some excellent music.

We are staying in Pärnu until Thursday and then moving on to other parts of Eesti. We’re still in the process of figuring out where in Eesti we’re headed to next, but it looks like Lääne-Eesti (western Estonia) or Tartu-Võru area. We have also just picked up a cell-phone and can now be reached at 567-25-711. The country code for Eesti is 372, I believe. So now you can reach out and touch us! ewww.
