Good Friday

Apr 25 marks this year Good Friday for the entire Orthodox population in the world. Because the Orthodox church still uses the Julian calendar, the Easter date is different than the Catholic Easter date.

Today is a day of mourning. In the morning Christ’s burial is reenacted while in the evening the procession of the epitaph is the highlight of the ceremony. Instead of the normal evening service, the Passion of Christ is sung.

All over the Orthodox world, all chores are forbidden today. Women are only allowed to color the eggs. It’s a day of lent and many woman would want to keep the black lent (no eating, no water, no talking).
