Arad’s Days Aug 18-24

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

I’m missing the annual “Arad’s Days” (Zilele Aradului, Ro).

What will be up? Concerts, events, parades…among the singers: Nicu Alifantis (on 18), Viennese music (how ironic is that?! I’m going to Vienna! lol), traditional Romanian music (yuck!), AMADEUS, ANALIA SELIS, SIMPLU, 2 UNLIMITED, NERI PER CASO(Italy), HOLOGRAF, PUYA, ANDREI, FLORIN CHILIAN, CELIA, BLAXY GIRLS, BERE GRATIS, DAMIAN@BROTHERS, AUREL TAMAS, OANA SARBU, TEODOR CIUCUR-BIHOR, CRISTIAN POMOHACI, …

We’ll be back on 22nd so I’ll see the cars in the square right in front of our apartment.

Leaving in 6 hrs…

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

I know, I should be sleeping…well, I cannot. Backpack is packed, I only have to add the toothbrushes and the toothpaste plus our perfumes. I pissed b/c my fav Adidas t-shirt i got last year from Bucharest has a stain on it and I cannot get rid of it :( which means I will have to buy something from Vienna right? lol

I did a bit of research and here’s the map for what we are up to.

We plan to buy a map and then plan the days once we get there. We’ve got 4 full days - not counting Sun and Fri - to explore the city. Although on Sun there’s free admission at several museums so that should be worth a visit.

Packed and ready to go

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Yup, I packed the backpack for me and hubby. Decided to buy the toiletries in Austria so we’ll only be taking clothes and some medications (including my BCP and anti-allergy pill). I still believe I packed too many clothes — especially jeans — but , oh well…

We’ll be leaving tomorrow at 4-5 am and should be Vienna before noon (their time).

Leaving on the spur of the moment…

Friday, August 8th, 2008

Apparently we are off to visit MIL tomorrow morning. Going by car wt a friend to Bucharest and then taking a bus to Calarasi.

I have to take the laptop wt me so for me this is a working “holiday” anyway. But it will be good to change the air a bit, right? Going to have mobile net while on the road and DSL at MIL’s. Probably we’ll go to the sea side on a short spinn as well…we’ll see.

RDS SUCKS BIGTIME

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Yes, a HUGE personal rant!

I paid the subscription TWO MONTHS IN ADVANCE both for cable and net and turns out they don’t have the records hence they cut the net. Needless to say the idiot cashier didn’t give me the right reciept either so now that I checked I have every proof for the cable except the one i need for net.

I wonder IF  the cashier - whom is a personal friend, btw-would actually admit that she took the money. I NEVER expected her to make a mistake.

So, I’ll update in cpl of minutes when I come back from the ISP…

Meantime, one thing is for sure: THIS FAMILY IS CHANGING ISPs and I hope everyone else  does the same.

Update: well, she admitted I paid BUT it was the wrong invoice so I had to pay some more. In 2-3 hours hubby’s net should be up and running.

Meantime it’s work time for this gal:)

Romania: Transfagarasan …horrible road

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

Transfagarasan is road located at the highest altitude in Europe…that should count for something, right? well, yeah, but it doesn’t stop authorities to somehow “forget” to fix the road.

Recent reports from travelers say that the holes in the road are pretty much enough to get you a heck of a hard time to anyone driving there. Piece of advice: rent a car! At least you are not breaking your own.

Authorities said they are going to start fixing the holes soon…how soon? the road closes when the first snow falls, which is usually in October…so that leaves them…what? 2 months to fix it before the road is closed again for 8 months?

Starting to get excited…

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

I’m sort of afraid to…mostly b/c last time I was VERY excited only to find out that my friends let me down. No, they cannot now…and I already talked to hubby’s boss and he said hubby’s getting the vacation…as for my work , I can manage it…

However, I’m a bit afraid to be “that” excited….and I’m even reluctant to do the research needed [like walking tours and such]…most likely I’ll be doing that 2-3 days before we leave and certainly AFTER I book the train ticket.

Hubby’s way more excited than I am though ….which is awesome. It can be our “second honeymoon” :) the first was in Budapest, last year.

Vienna: Aug 17-22

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Yes, I reserved a room at DoStepInn for 22 euros/person/night.

I’ve also looked up trains and they arrive right near the hostel (well it’s at 3 min walking distance). Best of all, the hostel is nicely located at abt 30 min walk from the center.

We are going to buy the Vienna Card for both of us (me and hubby) b/c of the discounts offered.

Our “friends” are staying at a 3 star hotel little down the street , at the same distance from the center and will pay over 350 euros for their 5 nights stay.

Here’s the map where those 2 hotels are:

Romania: Transfagarasan open again

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Remember my post?

The national road is open again for tourists. The views are magnificent and totally worth it. Just check the forecast to avoid bad weather.

WOW It’s been ages

Friday, July 4th, 2008

It’s been ages since I posted in my blog. And come to think about it I write daily for work but never find the time to write on my own blog…go figure.

Now let’s try to give you updates…just celebrated 1 yr since I’ve been member of BootsnAll community.. Shhh I haven’t even told my boss [ups, forgot lol]

We (finally) changed the furniture and flooring in our apartment. Feels awesome but now i feel like we should stay home during our next vacation. Hubby’s off in Aug (don’t know the dates yet) and I’m working towards some free days myself …so we’ll see. We’ve got plenty of stuff to do right near home or right over the boarder, so that won’t be a problem.

Meantime, we are boiling here …
