Safari Day 2 - Tarangire to Serengeti National Park
Woke up to a beautiful morning - the nights really cool off nicely here, but the days are extremely hot (at least it wasn’t so humid, but that made it very dusty).
Notice the fence around the campsite. Non of our next 3 campsites had fences. Enjoyed breakfast this morning with some company.
We drove a long way today down some very rough and dusty roads. This was a common scene (Masai children herding goats).
We started out on very nice blacktop, but after we entered into Ngorngoro Crater Conservation Area, the pavement ended. However, one of the landrovers did blow a tire before the road turned bad (and blew many more tires after it did).
We were greated into Ngorngoro by one of the locals. I think he was happy to see us, too.
We stopped briefly at the rim of the crater - wow! This place was beyond description - we were coming back here 2 nights from now to camp for our last night (that was a good fire that night, but not hot enough to melt glass.)
But now we had to continue sucking down dust for the next few hours. We passed by some Masai villages near the crater, changed another flat tire, and then made a stop shortly before the entrance into Serengeti National Park.
I think it was only 1pm or so by now, and we still had to drive across to the other side of Serengeti N.P. to our campsite (where we camped for 2 nights). We piled 29 people (including the drivers) into 4 landrovers, so all the porters and the cook could get to camp and have everything set up for us with dinner just about ready while we did some game watching on the way. This safari stuff is fun!
