Long Nights

Friday, December 23rd, 2005

Two more days (“time keeps draggin’ on”) !!! It’s 7:35pm on Friday, Dec. 23, 2005 at Kilimanjaro. They are 9 hours ahead of central standard time. So, for all of you partying on New Year’s Eve here in Minnesota, I will hopefully be standing at the top of Kilimanjaro when the corks fly and the champagne spills (cheers!). Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all! Thanks for all the advice (and thanks Pat S. for the Hemingway book – that should keep me occupied sitting around the airports – it’s about time I read Snows of Kilimanjaro ). For all my co-workers, there are cool maps hanging in my office. Seeyabye.

Short Days

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

Welcome to Winter! Current conditions in Minneapolis: 14 deg F. Sunny (“but we ain’t seen the sunshine since I don’t know when” ). Sunrise 7:49 a.m. Sunset 4:34 p.m. (a modest 8 hrs. and 45 min. of daylight). Anyway, it’s 80 deg. and sunny at Kilimanjaro (at least in Moshi). Obviously, it gets colder as you go up the mountain – I read that the freezing line was at about 15,000 feet (so that means only a couple days at freezing temps or below). Days are short, nights are long. Only 4 more days, and I’m gone!
