Confirmation for a suspicious wench

February 15th, 2006

So it’s been confirmed. Having been in Whistler for a good few months now I’ve come to the realisation that I get along much better with fellow tourists/travellers than the locals here. Initially I assumed it was just me and perhaps an acquired attitude problem after having a few dramatic upheavals at the beginning of this journey. But alas, after many discussions with travellers I work with in various fields, it seems that we’re all finding the same thing. Many locals here seem to be quite reluctant to get to know the tourists. Which is fine…. to an extent. But this is bordering on rudeness. My theory behind it was that, being a tourist resort, the locals simply can’t be bothered to form friendships with people who are only here short term. I understand that. It would be difficult to become close to people only to have them up and leave after a short amount of time. But it’s the same for us. What if I meet people whose company I really enjoy? I have to leave too! But why miss out on such an awesome experience simply out of fear of what COULD be??? Travellers are some of the most interesting people I’ve ever met and it gives a great opportunity to learn about the world and the people in it. Same goes for locals. What better way to get a feel for a place than to get to know the people who know most about it? Overall, it’s leaving a rather bad taste in the tourists mouths. What to do…. what to do….

Mindnumbing talent Feb 9th ’06

February 9th, 2006

Current status: incredibly bored and watching the clock tick at work. 1 hour and 16 minutes until I finish job #1, 8 hours and 15 minutes until I finish job #2 and 10 hours and 15 minutes until I get paid and can afford a Kraft dinner. Exciting stuff. I find it ironic that the store slogan for the company I work for is “It’s what we live for…” I suspect they’re talking about working in retail bullshit as opposed to skiing…..
