Isla to Tulum
Hi all, sorry I haven´t updated in a while. It´s not always so easy to get internet access and I´ve actually been quite busy over the last couple of days. So, I had a few hours Spanish lessons which were cool. My teacher was a mad, lovely German lady and one other girl in the hostel had lessons too. We´d start learning Spanish then end up gossiping about boys. Lisa (my classmate) and I went on an adventure together. I´d been planning to visit a school where they teach English to the locals so they can get jobs in tourism. It was right in the middle of a local suburb about 3km from the hostel. We got the bus down there and it was really good to be somewhere that felt more like Mexico with no tourists. Unfortunately the school was closed so I had to leave my donation of toys and stuff for the kids outside the front door, I hope they got it. Lisa was craving Chinese food and we randomly found a take out! So we sat on the beach eating chow mein. There were a couple of nurse sharks in an enclosure there too (see pictures) which was awesome at first but then I realised probably quite cruel. Anyway, it was a really good adventure and one of the best days.
Yesterday myself and 3 others from the hostel headed down to Tulum. It´s a pretty easy journey, just 2 hours on the bus but it was great to finally be on the move. When we arrived the hostel was full so we rented a cabaña for 10US dollars each. An amazing place, lots of bats flying around and lizards and a lime tree outside our hut! It´s so great to have some people to travel with, Petal and Tim are from Southampton and doing a similar trip to me for 6 months and Chris is from Georgia and is just travelling until his money runs out. The cabaña had two double beds so we all got to know each other a bit better! Don´t worry James, it was girls in one bed and boys in the other.
So today we´re doing a few errands then heading down to the beach. We´re hoping to rent another cabaña down there and go see the ruins. I reckon I want to move down to Belize after that but only if I´ve got someone to travel with, don´t fancy doing the border crossing on my own.
Thanks so much for all your comments, it´s great to read through them all. Please don´t worry if I don´t update this for a few days, I´m fine honestly!
Take care

I might go to salsa though…. see if I can’t pick up a cute boy who WON’T refer to my job as “being someone’s little bit*h”

Swimming with sharks!!! But I guess with a name like ‘Nurse’ sharks, they’re gonna be friendly. Now if they were called ‘Ripper’ sharks or ‘Angry’ sharks, then I’d be worried.
And you’re having such an international trip; An English girl going to Mexico to be taught Spanish by a German before eating Chinese on the beach! But it all just sounds lovely….I mean you know how much I love chow mein!
You take it easy now and I hope the trek down to Belize goes smoothly, hope the weather holds out and get J9 to send you the pictures she took on her phone on friday……..heh heh!
Love J
