Ulaan Bataar is not a pretty city. It’s composed of a lot of soviet-bloc style buildings, dust, and buildings under construction. It is surprisingly traveler-friendly, though, with lots of internet cafes, western restaurants, and guesthouses. We decided to stay in Ulaan Bataar until Thursday, when the Nadaam festival is over, but I am absolutely dying to get out into the countryside, which is supposedly what makes Mongolia magnificent. I took off on a short hike outside of town yesterday and I was rewarded with some great views of Ulaan Bataar from afar.
Although there are signs of their Shamanistic history everywhere (Opening ceremony at the Nadaam festival, Ulaan Bataar)
