Ahoy there, mateys!

British people love fancy dress…they just love it. If there’s a birthday or a sporting victory to celebrate, what better way than by dressing up as cops and robbers or doctors and nurses? When I came to study in the UK last year I had no idea what fancy dress was – I was thinking ball gowns and tuxes. Once I figured out it was actually a group of people dressing up for a night out, I was still a bit confused as to why this would be fun in any way. That was before now.

Packages, Portobello Road, and Kinky Boots

It came it came!!! The first instalment of what I hope will be very many packages full of good ol’ American TV DVDs has finally arrived! I went to the post office this morning on my way to work to pick up my package and I nearly had to bribe the guy to give it to me as the post office portion of the store didn’t technically open until 9:00, but he was really nice and gave it to me anyway. I didn’t have time to make it home to drop it off, so it took a ride on the train with me and is now sitting here on my desk at work. I haven’t opened it yet, but I saw on the customs form that there is peanut butter inside…Mom, I love you! It was nice to get a package and see my mom’s handwriting on the outside, and it even reminds me of Dad as it is packed up in a box that some of his fishing shoes came in.
