British people love fancy dress…they just love it. If there’s a birthday or a sporting victory to celebrate, what better way than by dressing up as cops and robbers or doctors and nurses? When I came to study in the UK last year I had no idea what fancy dress was – I was thinking ball gowns and tuxes. Once I figured out it was actually a group of people dressing up for a night out, I was still a bit confused as to why this would be fun in any way. That was before now.

It came it came!!! The first instalment of what I hope will be very many packages full of good ol’ American TV DVDs has finally arrived! I went to the post office this morning on my way to work to pick up my package and I nearly had to bribe the guy to give it to me as the post office portion of the store didn’t technically open until 9:00, but he was really nice and gave it to me anyway. I didn’t have time to make it home to drop it off, so it took a ride on the train with me and is now sitting here on my desk at work. I haven’t opened it yet, but I saw on the customs form that there is peanut butter inside…Mom, I love you! It was nice to get a package and see my mom’s handwriting on the outside, and it even reminds me of Dad as it is packed up in a box that some of his fishing shoes came in.
