Left Turn

Hi Everyone!

I am here in Sihanoukville again, safe and sound. I will be spending a couple more days here before I go back to Phnom Penh. It's cooler here than in the city, so I am having a hard time making myself leave. When I do leave, I'll check out the leads I have for jobs and see if anything pans out right away. Maybe I'll get lucky. I won't get really serious about finding a job for a little while though, I want a bit of a break for now.

I titled this entry "left turn" because of something a friend of mine from LSI said to me one day about two weeks before I left. A few of us were sitting at a table in the Big Chip cafe at LSI, and I said that I had just given my notice. Everyone at the table was surprised, but Mike Perry said that it's sometimes good to take a left turn in life and try something different, which is what I am doing now. He went on to say that there had been several times in his life he felt the need to do that, and that he never regretted a decision to make a change.

I will write more soon... Not as many weird and crazy things are happening to me on this trip as they did when I was with Sean. Maybe it's just that it isn't so new to me anymore and I am getting used to how things are in SEA, I'm not quite sure. But it is a crazy, interesting place compared to home anyway.

Take care everyone, I'll write more later. :)

Glad to hear everything is o.k. with you. Sounds like your trip getting there was smoother than the last time. Enjoy the weather for me, its raining again here.

Shonda, always remember what I told you in my email a couple of months ago. Since you probably have your dictionary with you, look up and learn, the word diarrhea. This will be a handy word to know, as you remember, because it allows you two possible uses. One would be in the unfortunate situation when you are actually afflicted with this medical situation. Knowing how to say the word can be useful as the "locals" can direct you to the nearest medical facility to seek treatment for your situation, or hand you the right box of drugs off the pharmacy shelf. The other reason for knowing the word "diarrhea" is in the event you happen to run into any more foreign tourists looking to buy some uh...well...pharmaceutical products...as mentioned in one of your previous entries here. Instead of giving them the correct name for the stuff, simply give them the word for diarrhea. Not only will you possibly curb their drug use for a little while, you'll also bring a smile to the face of the locals. After all, we both know that there are few things funnier than some foreigner coming up to you and asking you where they can go buy some diarrhea. If you happen to run into the foreigners at some later date, you can simply do one of two things; either tell them they must've pronounced the word wrong, or act clueless and tell them that that was what you were told, and that you have no idea if the word was correct or not. Either way, you'll be off the hook. Just remember to keep a straight face until after they've left. Otherwise, they'll know that you've set them up.
