Good news and bad news...

Hi Folks!

I am now in Siem Reap and enjoying myself. I didn't feel very well for a couple of days so I am glad to be out of that funk and back to having fun.

While still in Phnom Penh I decided to change hotels to one nearer the river area. Big mistake. It appears to be a very nice well run establishment, newer and rather large hotel called the Goyzena. When I was checking in, they said that my room was not quite ready and could see that I had my baggage with me, and it was heavy. Since it was noon, they told me that they could watch my baggage while I had lunch. I didn't give it a lot of thought since I knew my valuables (camera, ipod and money) were buried deep into my backpack and they seemed to be on the up and up. (It was a nice, decent newer hotel.) Well, I returned about 2 hours later and my bags were already in my room. Nice service huh? The only problem is that they charge $175 for it plus my credit cards, (my money belt was missing). After I discovered this several hours later, I was sick to my stomach and feeling like I was going to throw up. I had counted on withdrawing money from my bank account as I went along so that I would not have to carry large amounts of cash. Suddenly, I only had about $12 on me, and no credit cards. I even owed the hotel that ripped me off. Nice huh?

Well, thanks to Mike I was able to get my cards cancelled and American Express gave me some emergency money. Whew! Now that my trip is not ruined, I only wish that the person who stole from me would be afflicted with the fleas of a thousand camels. Well, I'm not sure camels have fleas, but I think they do.

Annnyyywayy, the bad news is that I only have just enough money to continue my trip and will have to return the money my brother and Dad wanted me to spend on silk and silver for them. I may be able to pull off buying a few things, I just can't tell yet for sure since I have no way to access money anymore I have to be careful with what I have left which isn't a lot. I suppose the only thing that could change that is if you want to send some money Western Union, but it's kind of expensive to do that I think. Sorry about that guys! I was going to rather enjoy bartering and buying stuff too... I hope that guy is getting bitten right now!! :) I have spent some time at the markets since getting here and the prices are pretty good on most things. There really are some nice bargains, especially if you have a Khmer friend to help you barter, and I do.

Well, I am probably going to cross over into Laos before heading home. I think a week or so up there would be pretty cool. That is what everyone says. It's supposed to be really cheap there too. Guesthouses that are very nice with river front view only $5 a night. And dinner for two with drinks for only about $3. I think I can handle it.

Well Dad and Rick, consider the Western Union thing if you like, but I only have about 2-3 more days in Cambodia, then will head out. I'm not sure they have them in Laos. Let me know through email.

I'm sorry to hear about Uncle David and I hope he feels better soon.

I will write more soon. Sorry for the long delay this time, I really just wasn't feeling well, and was pissed off so it was hard to write. Love you all, and talk to you soon!

This hotel that has done this must be made to pay for their insolence.

They will be paying up one way or another. The world is a small place and they need to understand this fact. If they don't now - then they soon will.

Let them know they are gonna get blogged etc. really really bad.

Give contact info on this site so others can start letting them know how stupid they are.

Don't worry about not buying stuff for us. Try to enjoy the rest of your trip.

:-)
