January 31, 2004Why I like John Edwards
It's so funny watching the Democratic primaries from Thailand. I can't believe Dean did so badly in the most recent primaries. On the otherhand, I'm really glad that John Edwards is doing so well. I always liked him more than Dean, but I didn't think he had that big of a chance. But who knows. The thing that has bothered me about Dean consistently is how much he reminds me of Bush. Not the politics mind you, but just the personality. I realized alot of the personal characteristics that made me dislike Bush (aside from the politics) were qualities of Dean as well. They both seem arrogant, overconfident in what they say, and seem to have an unwillingness to listen to anyone else other than their own supporters. And what I really don't like is that Bush, Dean as well as Kerry, all come from very privileged backgrounds. No it's not their fault, but I believe that we need a president that understands and will think about the needs of the working class. I'm not saying that Dean or Kerry won't necessarily do the same; but studying about people trying to decide between paying for food, rent or healthcare is not quite the same as living it. That's why I like John Edwards. Not only has he maintained a positive campaign, but he has this "pull yourself up by the bootstraps message" that should appeal to those in the middle, that might lean Republican otherwise. Comments
Hey there Ravensong. I don't really care either way about the American election (I guess as long as the Democats - or even better the Green Party - are able to keep it together long enough to win). I suppose I'm posting because I just thought it was interesting that I would stumble upon your travelblog after having breakfast with you this morning at the Suk. Take care of that back and I hope you enjoy Chiang Mai and all it has to offer. Hey Jason! That's is pretty funny. I am enjoying Chiang Mai, from the relative coolness to the lack of mosquitoes. Hope you're having a good time in the islands! |
