Wedding Dress Shopping

Wedding Dress Shopping Rule #22: don't wear your old hole-y backpacker underwear when you go wedding dress shopping. I decided to check out a few places for dresses since they are literally a fraction of the price they are in the states. And in Thailand (maybe in the states too, I don't know I haven't tried) the person stands there helping you into the dress while you're standing there in your underwear. Very embarrassing. But all my underwear with my is of the old hole-y backpacker sort. I purposely brought my old underwear so that when I leave Asia (with the massive quantities of stuff I know I'm going to buy) I can just throw it away.

I realized I tended toward the really simple dresses, but they were so plain I felt that they almost looked like white bridesmaid dresses. Maybe what I really want is a simple barefoot wedding on the beach, not the monstrous event that it's going to turn out to be. K, are you sure we can't elope with just our immediate families? :)

On a side note, I find it funny that people here automatically assume that I'm Thai. When I was in China, people didn't think I looked Chinese at all. Maybe that's because I was in northern China and my family is from southern China.

Amy,

I'm curious as to what rules #1-21 are. :P

I've just seen Something's Gotta Give. I liked it more that I thought I would, but the last 5 minutes were aweful. Suprisingly it wasn't Keanu Reeves. In fact, he wasn't all that bad (he didn't have too many lines it seemed).

Hope your life continues to be eventful. Mine is slumming at the moment, but in March I go with my grandmama to the Panama canal.

Cool Beans.

And if the mysterious Monsieur K. reads this, hello to you too.

That's pretty funny. I was thinking about you today....there's an article on rural Cambodia in the Times, which you can read here , all about internet services on motobikes....amusing stuff. anyway, what would you do with a wedding dress, ship it home?

oh, and if the link above doesn't work: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/01/26/technology/26oxcart.html

Yea, I don't know how I would get a wedding dress back to the States. But I bet buying it here and shipping it home would STILL be cheaper then buying it in the States.

You're getting married? When and how was this decided? When will it happen? Was there an exciting proposal? I feel so out of the loop. I'm sorry if this was explained in another entry that I missed. Anyhow, congradulations Amy and Kieran!

And, like everyone else, I'm really enjoying your journal. Thanks for telling us about your trip.

Yes Heather, we're getting married :) Didn't you get the email that went out to all the NY people that told you to come out and celebrate (and that if you didn't know what we were celebrating you should talk to us more often?) :)
