Sober Moments

It hasn't all been about the beer and Blazdell. Francesca brought a paper called "The Art of Living: The Classic Manual on Virtue, Happiness, and Effectiveness."

It's not long but it took two trips to the bathroom for me to read it all this morning.

Here is one passage to chew on:

"He asks us to minimize the importance we would place on 'external' choices, what we might today call 'lifestyle choices,' and to concentrate on the small but significant inner moral choices we make in the course of any day."

Lets make sure we're practicing Epictetus's philsophy at the Lucky Lab tonight. Don't you think it's our moral obligation to buy Blaz a beer? Sean might have that covered, but after our ability to put it away last night, you never know.

Here was another interesting part of the paper:

""Inner confusion and evil itself spring from ambiguity"
Ooooh, I better not be vague about what kind of beer I'm drinking tonight.

ok, but what arrogance to say or believe that one understands the truth?
rather let one understand that there is no absolute truth, that abiguity is the natural state of things, and that acceptance and tolerance is of greater virtue than knowledge.
gotta love drunk philosophizing!
