We got up bright and early to move camp before the heat got too oppressive, and found the perfect spot near a sandy beach down a tributary river to the Shiripuno. Same procedure as yesterday, with the boys chopping while the gringoes carried the gear up to the campsite. We were finally starting to feel useful as we knew the drill and could set up camp efficiently without needing guidance :-)

After a lovely lunch we set off to a lagoon where Jhon paddled us Venice-style over the perfectly still water in a leaky canoe. The jungle was mirrored in the lagoon, it was calm, quiet and gorgeous with the only sounds coming from birds and insects. I caught myself thinking "WOW, this really sounds like the jungle"... Doh!

We spent an hour or two gliding silently across the water in slow motion, munching on sweet jungle fruits - like fuzzy beans inside a pod - and admiring the myriad birds, insects and huge X-Files-style cobwebs hanging like cocoons from the trees. The stillness broken only by colorful birds flying by was special, and I can´t remember being this relaxed in a long time.

Upon return to our camp we had a jungle spa experience, complete with mud mask and scrub as we took our daily river bath. I had a Spanish Cosmopolitan Magazine which Max insisted upon hauling into the jungle so he could take a picture with it... and I must say that this was quite the Cosmo-moment. I suspected him of bringing it so he could read it in his tent at night, but of course he denied all accusations ;-)

Our plans to go Caiman spotting (smaller member of the crocodile species) were spoilt as it started to rain, but in our relaxed, pampered mood we didn´t mind. We spent the evening carving palm nuts, and had to admit it was more difficult that it looks ;-) My jungle jewellery collection grew once more, with the addition of a cute turtle - not carved by myself.
