The First Entry!

KAILANIPIC1.jpg

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog!!! So I'm off to see the world in about 3 months, or so that is my plan anyway. I'd like to head out sometime around the first part of June.....if funds permit!
My original plan was to go completely around the world in 9 months, but then it changed...to just Europe in 3..then changed to just Europe in 4...now I am proud to say that it is back to around the world in now specific amount of time.. (until I run out of money I guess!)

I have set up somewhat of an itinerary but it was created during the 'just Europe for 4 months' period. So I probably need to get to work on that soon!
I don't want to overplan though...then it would be no fun.

I have now recieved my Hostelling International card so I can get discounts on most HI member hostels in Europe and some Asian countries as well as a few bonus discounts on ferries from Italy to Greece, etc..
I have also ordered the new 'Europe on a Shoestring' guide from LonelyPlanet, it was just released this month!
I already own the 'Southeast Asia on a Shoestring' guide and I'm unsure if they will be coming out with a more updated one anytime soon.

Well I am now selling everything I own on eBay as well, I have already sold all of my seasons of Southpark and now I am selling my season 3 of CSI, my Mean Girls DVD and the Honey DVD (for some reason no one is interested in Honey, guess I was one of the few who wasted money on it). I plan to sell my CD collection (those that aren't all scratched up anyway!)...which is huge. I recently upgraded to an iPod, so CD's have no use to me anymore.

I've been working on my webpage as much as possible, I am thinking of just getting rid of it all together and just doing the blog thing...after all it's free, the webpage costs $11.95 per month (ugh!).

my webpage is: www.backpacktrack.com
(P.S. It is under massive construction, it only consists of one page, that has some pictures of me and some funny stuff, as well as a link to my shop..
www.cafepress.com/backpacktrack
Let me know if you think I should keep the webpage ot just go with the blog.

My family is in the process of moving now (yes I live with my parents) and when we get moved into the new house we are going to have a garage sale, I will sell my wardrobe there!

I guess I will go now, I promise to make my entries more interesting in the future ;)

$3,000 for RTW?... Are you sure that's enough?...

In any case, best of luck! I can't believe you've travelled so much already and you're only 20.

Hey there, no the 3,000 is what I've saved so far!!! haha
I plan to leave now at the end of the summer so I should hope to have over 10,000 by then!
As I make $$ and add an entry to the blog I will say how much I've saved so far.
Thanks so much for checking out my blog!
Yeah my family has lived in quite a lot of places (my father is an engineer).

Hey, we have quite a bit in common! Im 20 also, and a web programmer. Im going on a trip of my own, although I don't have nearly that much money saved up. I was irresponsible and randomly quit my job one day :). I was wondering, how are you travelling? What are you bringing? What do you plan to eat?

Hey there Keyla,
Thanks for checking out my blog!
As far as how I am travelling, I am taking a plane to Europe, in Europe I will use a Eurail ticket (travel by rail, quite cheap if you want to do a lot of travel in a short amount of time and the rail system is very extensive there). As far as what I am bringing, I have a packing list (well kinda) that everytime I think of anything I realy really need I add to it, so by the time I leave I should know of everything I need/ have though of everything, I look at other peoples packing lists too, like on Lonely Planet Thorntree, then compare what I have so far. When I get it finalized I'll post it here on the blog. I plan to also pack it up in my backpack ( I have a Gregory Palisade 65L (that's size small) backpack) and see how it all fits before I am completely sure of my pack list. As for stuff I know for a fact I am taking: Montrail Boots, Keen Newport H2 sandals (for the water and just walking, very nice!), REI Quarterdome UL tent, hostel sheet (required by many hostels and just a safe idea for Asian hostels..bedbugs..ugh), Thermarest mattress (blow up), Backpack Duck (rain cover for backpack), and some smaller things, but I will put all that on here sometime soon.
As for eating I will eat at hawker/street stalls as much as possible..like the locals or just buy supermarket stuff and eat/cook it at the hostel (some have kitchens). Hope this helps! Where are you going on your trip? How long?
Keep in touch with me!! my e-mail is texan_girl13@hotmail.com
