Therefore I have researched the alternatives and decided to still exit Yellowstone via the North East Entrance and then take the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway (state highway 296) towards Cody and then the 120 north towards Billings. This is also said to be a scenic route although not as wonderful as the Beartooth Highway. Oh well, another year perhaps for the Beartooth.
