As we weaved our way through the tortuous road that led away from Fort Bragg through the coastal range our spirits lifted as the temperature outside rose from a chilly 12 degrees C to a roasting 35 degrees C when we got to Willits. We were adrift with no plan for the next two days as we had planned on spending three days at Fort Bragg just relaxing.

We had a superb lunch at an 'all you can eat' Chinese buffet and then checked out the town. We found an excellent motel, checked in and lounged by the pool for the rest of the day. All of us luxuriating in the warmth.

The evening saw us having a meal in a family restaurant followed by drinks by the motel pool with the kids back in the water and the river gurgling past at the side of us, the holiday was back on track.
