Viva Las Vegas

Our trip started in Las Vegas. This was our 4th visit since 1990 and
it continues to amaze me how much the place changes each time we go.

We stayed at the Flamingo having got a good late deal on rooms
through Expedia. To see the strip, the Flamingo is in one of the best
locations.

Newly opened since we last visited were the Paris and Alladins
casinos. The Paris is attached to Bally's and you can walk off of
Bally's gaming floor and onto a mockup of a Paris street ! There is a
1/3 scale copy of the Eiffel tower which is well worth going up for
the panoramic views it offers. We went up during the day, I suspect
its more dramatic at night when all the lights are on. Alladins next
door has the biggest indoor shopping mall I've been in, made out to
be like an eastern kasbah (how many kasbahs have Gucci shops in
them ?).

We enjoyed our time there and the kids really enjoyed the garden and
pool area of the Flamingo. One noticeable feature was that the price
of the legendary buffets had increased significantly. They still
represent good value but are not as shockingly cheap as they seemed
in earlier visits. I guess they are wising up to visitors like us who
take advantage of the the free/cheap stuff and yet do not gamble to
give them their money back.
