Adventures in Sushi

On Thursday morning, our rental agent called, and asked me to give Sai, our landlord, a call. We're going to get a second car, so I can make the commute up to Zama (eventually, after I get a licence), but in order to do so, you have to have proof of a parking space. So, Sai has offered to rent a space for us, and we'd just pay him every month. Not a bad deal, considering the amount of work it would take for us to do it on our own. Getting "housekeeping" type stuff like that done is quite difficult.

Anyhow, Sai and I went out to the parking spot dealer, did all the paperwork, and then went out for sushi. It was my first time to eat it out in an actual restaurant that has one of the conveyor belt "sushi movers" so it was of course exciting. There was also a tank filled with fish swimming around, and upon admiring a particular makerel of some sort, it was promptly scooped up with a net, and, chop chop, ended up on our plate. I was just looking. But, I ended up eating. In fact, when he showed up on the conveyor belt, his little gills were still flapping...kind of sad. But, strangely delicious.

I'm still getting the hang of sushi. It's one of those things that I've tried a few times before, and initially remarked, "That wasn't as disgusting as I thought it would be," but never was inclined to actually go out and get on my own. I think that by the end of the next 3 years, I'll probably come to love it. Or at least some of it...

It's amazing, really, looking at a plate filled with raw fish and other miscellaneous parts of creatures that normally would make me recoil in disgust. Who in their right mind (American, anyway) would actually put a squid tentacle in their mouth? It just doesn't seem right...but, it sure is tasty! An acquired taste, to be sure...but one that I'm acquiring.
