Tahiti Bound!

Well, the day finally came. I'm sitting in the New Sanno Hotel in Tokyo right now, waiting for Mrs. F to show up. She had to work today, and is taking the train up later on. Inshallah, she'll be here soon.

We leave tomorrow for LA, and then, after killing the day there, we fly to Papeete, Tahiti for our 1st Anniversary cruise. The way I figure it, while we're over here on this side of the world, we should do something that we otherwise wouldn't be able to do...So, Tahiti it is. We of course will be blogging from there, and hopefully, they'll let us upload some pictures from their computers.

I plan on continuing the saga of the Empty Quarter...It just got so busy the last few days before I left Riyadh that I didn't have a chance to finish it up. Pictures will be posted on that one, too, once I get back.

Spent the night in Hong Kong yesterday. My friends Nicole and Lok live there, and have been gracious enough to put me up on a couple of occasions. Lok even took off from work to grab me from the Airport Express and take me back to their flat. He left me a key and said he'd call on the cell later about supper. So, I just kicked around town for a few hours. Took the Star Ferry to Kowloon, and grabbed a small snack and a cup of coffee. Then, headed back across to meet Lok for drinks (at a bar that was attached to a Gym - "Red" I think it was called...down by the really big building. After a San Miguel (at $44 HK apiece), we headed to an Italian place and grabbed a bite to eat. Then, back to their flat where we discussed some of the finer points of politics and current events...Lots of fun.

I took a cab this morning to the Airport Express station, checked in there, and hopped the train to the airport. From the time I got off the train to getting thru immigration and security was less than 20 minutes...Incredible. I had a nice greasy meal of Popeye's Chicken (which hit the spot, as my stomach was a bit sour from maybe one more glass of wine than I should have had...) for breakfast, wandered around the terminal a bit, and then boarded the plane for Tokyo.

Getting thru immigration and customs in Japan was just as easy, and I was on the bus for downtown within 30 minutes. After getting to Tokyo Station, I had to try to explain the New Sanno Hotel to the cab driver who hadn't heard of it before. Fortunately, Melody told me what to say, and between that, my phrasebook and a nice passerby, I was able to get on the right path.

Now, I'm just waiting for my lovely wife...Gonna log off and go back upstairs.

More to come...stay tuned.
