The meltemi, part three

I must finally mention the photographer, poet and psychoanalyst, Andreas Embeirikos, who had an exhibition in the Kairis library here in the Chora last year.

His photographs are of Andros in the 'fifties and 'sixties, and are as evocative as anything I've seen in this genre. The photographs have all been made up into a coffee table book for sale all over Andros at a hefty 48 Euros. But, if you're prepared to swallow, take a deep breath, and purchase a book whose images will stay with you, then go for it. You can then see how Andros has changed in every aspect; its way of life, its buildings. There is nothing picture-postcard about these pictures, they are, as I said before, deeply evocative of a life that no longer exists.
