Xian

Got to Xian after a long overnight train hard sleeper which means opens bunks three high at right angles to the train corridor. it always seems busier when you are trying to sleep. Crack was good and there was a series of people with trolleys trying to sell anything from pen torches, food, games etc.

The train station wa sbedlam with hundreds of people there however on seeing Xian (Shee han) i was impressed. A walled city and more scenic and confined in the centrew because of this. It has a large Moslem quarter where we went for lunch (dumplings) and later for shopping or for me just browsing.

The enxt day we went to see the Terracotta Warriors which were amazing. Rows of stone figures in battle formation plus horses and chariots. They have only excavated some areas since the figures lose the colour when then get oxygen.

It was very interesting and enjoyable.

Back to Xian where we went on a bike ride on top of the city walls in the sunshine. Smog had lifted and views of Chinese life from hig up was superb.
