Moscow

Moscow arriving at night is something else. All the main buildings and sights illuminated with them standing out like sentinels. However toer block everywhere and the traffic like a madhouse. Each main highway seems to be a car park in the two outer lanes and a free for all with lane changing.

Took the metro and did a one hour degree course in the Acryallic alphabet. But no problem there other than the crush today. Very well run and fast but crowded. It carries 10M people per day but compared to driving around the city it seems to be a dawdle. The stations were exactly as described and each one a sight to be seen. Spent the morning just going from staion to station and jumping off for a few minutes fora look and photos.

Walked around the sights but wet yesterday and dry & cold today (3deg C) Cold biting wind so into an internet cafe to warm up. Shopping seems to be a highlight here with massive department stores - not that Im interested but it was dry inside yesterday. The electrical superstore near the hotel had more shops selling electrical kit like cameras, phones, CDs than i every saw in my life.

Red Square is impressive as is some of the Russian Orthodox Churches. Gatecrashed a wedding in the one off Red Square yesterday. Very beatutiful ceremony with the churches very ornate with icons etc. No pews so everyone stands with services up to 5 hours. (Not like I remember in Ireland. We could hardly stick a service for an hour)

Anywat time is nearly up. TransSib train at 8PM. Next stop Siberia.
