Tickets, check...

To commemorate the three-week point until my departure (just a coincidence, really), today I'm buying the rest of my tickets! I think I've found the perfect balance between winging it and planning ahead: I'm just buying a few tickets for the long hauls between continents, and I'll buy other regional tickets locally as I need them/decide where to go. I like the fact that this doesn't lock me into anything other than a trip to India, Thailand, and London--which sounds much less daunting. But, it will also prevent me from being stuck in Bangkok, freaking out because all the flights to London are way more than I budgeted for and there aren't any seats for another three weeks.

So, today I'm getting this itinerary: New York-Delhi-Bangkok-London-New York. South America's already covered by frequent flyer miles, I'll travel mostly by train in India, mostly overland through Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, and then Africa will also be frequent flyer miles to/from London. Or, I can fly somewhere else in Europe cheaply from London.

Be careful with the earplugs. I read an article in our camping magazine about a couple who used earplugs in their motor home to drown out the outside noises at night when they went to bed. Their CO alarms went off and they never heard them. Luckily someone outside heard them and alerted them.
