I Found Paradise

So I've stopped moving around and settled into one spot for a while. It's in this huge bay in northern Ko Pha Ngan called Cholokalom Bay. We were staying all the way on the left side of the bay previously, but we migrated all the way across to the right side, and settled in some bungalows on the very edge of the
bay, right where the bay meets the open water. There's a great community feel here, as most people have been here for weeks and have gotten to know each other well. It's like this little community of bungalow occupants is secluded from the rest of the island and have their own little self-sufficient community going. Every once in a while some people will leave, and some new people will join in, but they are quickly accepted into the community and become part of life here that feels like it is completely independent of the rest of the world.

Last night the tide was out, and everyone gathered on the inlet of land formed by the receeding tide and built a fire. We laid on the beach under the amazingly bright moon that illuminates everything, and makes it seem like the sky is in a continual state of sunrise. We watched the small fishing boasts out at see shinning their lights on the water to catch squid. I chatted with the other travellers sitting around the fire and made new friends. There was a brother and sister from England who had just started out on their round the world trip, and were enthralled with America. They couldn't get over the fact that in America police carry guns. I think after I told them that they carry guns because in some places like Oakland they need to, they now think America is the drive-by horror story the movies make it out to be. Oops. Then there were the three Italians who were playing soccer in their speedos and sweaters out on the exposed sand, giggling to themselves in Italian all night. Even the Thai family who runs the bungalow community and restaurant came out and chatted with everyone.

It's so laid back here, and one resident said that he was only supposed to be here for a couple days, but he lost track of time and had been here for weeks. He actually wasn't quite sure the exact amount of time he had been here. I can see how that would happen. Laying in hammocks all day and lounging in pillows and eating amazing curries and noodles all night. I have forgotten what day it is and I almost forgot that I have to be some where some time up the road. Lazy lazy days in Thailand :)

OK Alex, this is beginning to sound like a cult. I don't want to have to de-program you when you return.

Please tell me you're not going to shave off all your hair and hand out pamphlets at airports!

Love ya!
