Chillin on the beach

Hey guys! First off I just want to let everyone know that I'm okay. I haven't seen it on the news yet, (let's be honest I haven't even seen a TV yet), but I 've heard that a ferry going from the island I'm on back to the mainland capsized today, and eight people drowned. I knew that all you faithfull readers might have realized that I was on that same island, so I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm ok.

So Ko Pha Ngan so far has been awesome! I went to the full moon party last night, which was insane! Although I didn't stay the whole time since I can't party like a rock star any more as I am an old woman, the time I did spend there was like a sensory overload! My favortie part of the night was when the other Californian and I heard one of the bars playing "welcome to cali" or whatever that song by Dr. Dre is. We had to take a minute to dance to that one. The lack of a culture gap here continues to amaze me.

Today the guy I've been traveling with (Buck) and I met up with some other people we had met on the plane from Taiwan, and we all got bungalows right on the beach in a bay in northern Ko Pha Ngan. Although for $2.50 a night, you don't get much, trust me. The bathroom situation is no bueno. We rented vespa/motorcycle things, and toured around the whole island. We did a treck through the forest to a waterfall, and then went to a quaint fishing village for luch, where they served us coconut juice in whole coconuts. Now I'm off to build a fire on the beach and have some beers with the rest of the bungalow communtiy. Ahhhh. . . life is good :)

Thank God you're okay. I'm staying on top of the news so thanks for keeping us posted. Stay away from overcrowded boats, buses, etc. Glad to hear you're in good company. Stay healthy- the bird flu (from Hanoi) may be heading your way!
Love, Mom

Wow... that's all I can say.

Alex,

Much to the dismay of Aunt Danielle, you've convinced me to quit my job and travel the world!

For some perspective (like you need it), we just got done digging out from under a 12" snow fall here.

Stay safe and keep the news coming!
